Applications Engineer – Combustion / Steam

Location: Borehamwood, Hertfordshire

Salary: £36k to £38k + Overtime + Bonus + Benefits

Working Hours:Normal working hours are from 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday with 45 min lunch and Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm with a lunch break of 60 minutes

Report to: Technical Manager

Our client is a provider of Industrial Steam, Thermal Oil and Hot Water Boilers. They also provide Thermal Oxidisers and Burners. They are currently looking for an experienced Applications Engineer who is detail oriented and experienced in preparing quotes with a desire to build on their knowledge.

Our client is part of an engineering group dedicated to solving thermal energy problems

with high quality solutions across a wide range of industries including food, chemical, metal,

pharmaceutical, public sector and marine industries.

The Applications Engineer will be working within the Process Engineering Division located at Borehamwood.

The successful Applications Engineer will undertake a variety of engineering tasks including the review and design of steam, thermal fluid, thermal oxidiser and process air heating systems to lead to the generation of detailed technical and commercial sales proposals.


The Applications Engineer will be reporting to the Technical Manager and will be working with the Company’s Technical Services Engineers, Contracts Engineers and Field Sales Engineers and interacting with colleagues at their production facilities.

The Applications Engineer’s key tasks include day-to-day responsibility for the generation of technically and commercially attractive quotations through the assessment of customer requirements and the use of in-house software to select key components and equipment to meet a specified process need. This will include system flow and pipe work pressure drop calculations to ensure the accurate application of the Company’s range of Steam Generators, Fire Tube Steam Boilers, high temperature Thermal Fluid Heaters, Process Air Heaters and Gaseous Effluent Thermal Oxidisers.

Other important tasks undertaken by the Applications Engineer, will include the completion of project engineering checks and the preparation of commissioning specifications, along with providing pre and post sales applications support to the Company’s External Sales and Internal Engineering functions.

In addition to the above mentioned tasks and depending on the workload in the Contracts Department, there will be a requirement from time to time for The Applications Engineer to carry out the role of Contracts Engineer to balance the demands within the departments and to gain and maintain familiarity with the procedures and requirements of the Contracts Department.


The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of HNC or equivalent in Chemical, Mechanical or a Process Engineering discipline with experience in a compatible industry or a manufacturer of related equipment.

Candidates qualified to Graduate/HNC level with less experience but with clear potential will also be considered.
